I've been in New Orleans since Thursday for a work trip that brought me to the Essence Music Festival. Being here surrounded by all of the fabulous events and musical artists has been such a treat, and actually reminds me of our wedding day!
Jedd and I have been coming to New Orleans for the last 6 years for New Year's Eve and as often as we can throughout the year. We love this city so much -- the food, music and spirit are tough to beat. We even considered it as a destination wedding spot. While that didn't happen, we did have a chance to bring one of our favorite bands from New Orleans (and old friends of ours) to our wedding to play the reception: The Stooges Brass Band. These guys are amazing.
Whether you have a band or a DJ, music is one way to truly make your special day feel like YOU as a couple. Think about music that inspires you, gives you a special feeling and/or makes you dance! Do you have a connection with anyone musical? How can they be part of your day, whether during the ceremony, cocktail hour or reception?
Because we wanted the reception to feel like a big dance party, we played throwback dance hits for the first part of the reception and then kicked into high gear with the band -- who eventually marched us right out of the hotel "Second Line" style, down the hill, and across the street to the hotel where everyone was staying. We will never forget the musical memories from our wedding.
